Sunday School & Small Group Classes
There’s a Seat Saved for You
The Christian faith is grounded in the love and grace of God, experienced through Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit. The Christian life is our response to God’s love and grace. The church calls our response to God; Christian discipleship. Discipleship focuses on actively following in the footsteps of Jesus. As Christian disciples, we are not passive spectators but energetic participants in God’s activity in the world.

While worship is central to Germantown United Methodist Church (GUMC), it is only part of the “disciple making” experience of following Christ. Small group studies enhance the worship experience by providing opportunities to learn more about the Bible, discuss current issues, develop close personal friendships, grow in faith and learn how to apply the Christian faith in real life situations. Below is a list of our upcoming small group studies. For more information contact Mary Groh at [email protected]

Sabbath: A Seven Week Study
Mondays, June 1 – July 13; Room 339, 7:00-8:00 pm, No Cost
On Monday nights this summer, Chloe Granberry will be facilitating a study by Dr. Ryan Bonfiglio, Associate Professor of Old Testament at Candler School of Theology on the topic of Sabbath. Chloe worked as a Teaching Assistant for Dr. Bonfiglio while she was in seminary, and is excited that this class is being made available asynchronously to churches everywhere through the Candler Foundry!
In this course, we will explore the biblical concept of Sabbath and what it means to embrace God’s rest in the midst of our busy lives and restless world. In doing so, we will come to understand the ancient idea of Sabbath as more than just downtime on the weekend. Rather, we will discover Sabbath as a disruptive and life-giving invitation to think differently about our priorities, the pace of our lives, and what it means to be created in the image of a God who rests.
There is no cost, but please register. For questions, please contact: Mary Groh at [email protected] or Chloe Granberry at [email protected].
SUMMER WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY
The Way of Wisdom – A Study of the Book of Proverbs
Wednesdays, June 17 – August 5; 9:45-11:45 am; via Zoom; Facilitator: Chesley Porteous; Cost: $28.00
The book of Proverbs describes godly wisdom as a path that leads to life and flourishing. How often do we call to mind the wisdom found in the sayings of Proverbs to shed light on the path before us? How relevant do we even believe these ancient words are to our modern world?
Join us for this 8-week study as we consider wisdom principles on everyday topics like your words, work, friendships, marriages, parenting, money management, neighborliness, leadership influence, and more. Together we’ll discover the wisdom of Proverbs as an invitation to steadily walk God’s way in God’s world.
