Protecting Against the Threat of Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse
Speaker: Special Agent D. Brooks Sample, Department of Homeland Security
Special Agent Sample’s presentation is part of Project iGuardian which offers presentations designed to inform parents and trusted adults on the threat of online child sexual exploitation and abuse (CSEA), how to implement preventive strategies, and how to report suspected abuse to law enforcement.
Danny Sample has been a special agent with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) since January 2018, starting his career at the HSI Calexico, CA office where he investigated human smuggling/human trafficking cases before transitioning to child exploitation investigations. He transferred to HSI Memphis in December 2021, assigned to the Cyber Group where he primarily investigates federal violations of child exploitation laws as well as human trafficking and labor exploitation. He routinely works with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and other city and county law enforcement agencies on cases involving child exploitation and human trafficking.
Prior to joining Homeland Security, he spent 10 years on active duty in the Marine Corps, stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA. While in the Marine Corps, he served as a satellite communications operator for five years and then as a counterintelligence/human intelligence specialist for the last five years, deploying to both Iraq and Afghanistan.
